Hackney Community Gospel Choir

HCGC

Introduction

The Hackney Community Gospel Choir (HCGC) was established in an attempt to reach out to people from every walk of life within Hackney. Also, we hope to reach those who may feel isolated or excluded from the community. It is a wonderful place for families to participate in an activity together. It helps to relieve stress and brings the community together.

Now HCGC is building on its success of hits by organising concerts at the end of every 9 – 10 week session and fundraising within Hackney.

HCGC

HCGC is open to everybody giving more people an opportunity to find their voice in a community setting. The songs are mostly gospel and are uplifting, songs that anyone would love to sing! We usually support the members by sending them the songs to learn in advance of the practice.

At a time when Community Choirs are springing up all over the UK, it’s great to be part of a movement that is giving people so much joy and hope. It is also a platform for communication across generations! This is an opportunity to sing alongside different people of different ages, faiths, postcodes and stages. Open to everyone from 18 years old. It is a platform for communication across generations. It could change your life. Come and join the fun. God Bless!!!

The choir was a finalist on BBC1’s Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year 2014 and was also nominated for “Musical Group/Choir of Excellence 2018” in the African Gospel Music Media Awards”, “Best Gospel Act” in the Urban Music Awards 2017, Premier Gospel Award “Choir of The Year 2017”, Choir of the Year 2016” and the British Gospel Music Alliance Industry (GMIA) award for “Best Music Video by a UK Choir/Group” (JUMP Music Video Awards) in 2014.

Despite the accolades they’ve received The Reapers Choir is a humble church choir directed by Anu Omideyi and comprised of singers from Christ Apostolic Church (Bethel), Hackney, UK. The current members of The Reapers Choir began their journey to reach a wider audience following the death of their church Overseer in 2012. His passing gave them the impetus they needed to take their message beyond the four walls of their church.

They have already experienced great success in doing so, but strive to reach even more people with their music.

Their up-tempo Afrobeats track, “The Only One (Okan Soso)” was extremely well received by the music community and public alike.

Premier Gospel radio station named it “Track of the Week” upon its release in 2017.

Their debut album, “Light Through the Tunnel”, was also released to critical acclaim and great support from radio stations in 2015. Its contemporary style showcases a range of musical styles from pop to praise and worship providing a musical soundtrack for people of all faiths – and those who have none – that uplifts listeners, no matter what they are going through or experiencing on their life journey. Its second single “Turn Away”, charted and climbed the Official European Independent Music Chart at #19, #15, #13, #11, #10, #9, #8 and then #7 (twice) over nine consecutive weeks (5-11 March, 12-18 March, 19-25 March, 26March-1 April, 2-8 April, 9-15, 16-22 April, 23-28 April, 29 April-5 May 2016 respectively).
