Pacesetters Music Launches Transformative 8-Week Beginner Piano Programme in Hackney
Hackney, London – 28 March 2026 — A vibrant new chapter in community music education has begun in Hackney as Pacesetters Music Workshops proudly launches its 8-week Beginner Piano Course, an initiative designed to equip individuals with little or no prior musical experience with foundational piano skills in just two months.
Hosted at Christ Apostolic Church (Bethel) UK, located at 217/223 Kingsland Road, the programme officially opened with an inspiring launch event attended by 15 young participants, reflecting strong interest and engagement from the next generation of aspiring musicians. Notably, the initiative drew attendees not only from across London but also from outside the capital, highlighting the growing reach and appeal of the programme.
The initiative reflects a deep commitment to using music as a tool for empowerment, inclusion, and personal development within and beyond the local community.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Prophetess Fadeke Omideyi, General Overseer of the church, who underscored the profound spiritual and social impact of music.
“Music is so important in the Christian community and is a powerful tool to bring hope to people from different backgrounds,” she shared during her opening address.
Empowering Through Music Education
The first session set a strong foundation for the weeks ahead, led by Phyllis Smith, a seasoned music educator with over 30 years of teaching experience. She was joined by Anthony Mahama, a respected creative media professional and youth music ambassador, alongside teaching assistant Praise Abu. Together, the team delivered an engaging, hands-on introduction to piano playing, fostering confidence, creativity, and enthusiasm among participants.
Programme Outcomes and Vision
The 8-week course is designed not only to teach technical piano skills but also to:
- Build confidence and self-expression through music
- Encourage creativity and discipline among young people
- Strengthen community bonds through shared learning experiences
- Provide a supportive entry point into music education for beginners
By the end of the programme, participants are expected to demonstrate basic piano proficiency, including reading simple notation, playing foundational chords, and performing beginner-level pieces.
Prophetess Fadeke Omideyi distributes course materials during the official launch of the programme.
Participants engage in hands-on learning during the piano workshop, each equipped with their own instrument and course materials.
A Broader Community Impact
Pacesetters Music Workshops envisions this initiative as the first of many programmes aimed at nurturing talent, supporting youth engagement, and promoting wellbeing through the arts.
Rooted in the values of faith, inclusivity, and community development, the project seeks to create lasting opportunities for individuals to discover and grow their musical potential.
As the programme progresses, organisers aim to expand its reach even further, building on the strong early interest—including participation from outside London— and introducing advanced classes and performance opportunities to showcase participants’ achievements.
